Random Things about Yours Truly

Well, folks, the 8 random things tag has reached me and it came via Ali. First, the rules:

  • We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
  • Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
  • People who are tagged write their own blog post about their eight things and include these rules.
  • At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names. Don

Needed Clarification

My previous post seems to have left too much room for misinterpretations, so I thought of posting a few clarifications on the matter.

The people the post referred to:

  • Those who keep using the word “shit” when they refer to Romania and Romanians;
  • Those attacking everyone else on false basis (that post was awful, all Romanian journalists can only write about celebrities) and trying to look smarter than others in a strive to promote themselves;
  • Those who complain about everything that exists, but who have never tried to change anything;
  • Those making ridiculous generalizations: all Romanians are stupid/looser/lazy etc (some are, but that is true of all nations)
  • Those thinking the only way to be appreciated is stating they are something other than Romanians. I’d say it is only the easy way!

Things I do not believe in:

  • There is no way to have a good life in Romania unless you have connections or rich parents
  • Everything made by a Romanian in Romania sucks;
  • I have no chances here and no way to go someplace else;
  • Limiting myself to complaining will ever help me.

Yes, many prefer the easy way. I will never promote it though. I choose not to. I choose to ask for more. From me, my friends, those around me, my future and everything I can think of.

Hope this helps :)

Why Are You Still Here?

Romania is awful. Everything seems to be on halt here. I make too little. I have no future here. I’ll never be able to buy a house here. I really hate it here. Romania sucks. Romanians, I hate those people…

I am so tired of those phrases, I could punch someone just for starting one. Here is the deal folks. If you hate it, what on earth are you still doing it here. Do you think life is greener in another place? Pack your stuff and go. What good would it do to stick around and complain about it everyday?

Some have left and have a good life in another country. Others have left and came back because life here was better for them. But they all tried. If you lack the guts, means or willpower to go, then stop making your life miserable with more complaining. It’s not good for your own health.

I for one am ok with my life right now. But I have this habit to act on my own thoughts. I thought Ploiesti was too small and not good enough for me to study and work there, so I moved to Bucharest. I thought a job was not what I wanted, I changed jobs. I thought I needed more mobility, I invested in a car and laptop, which I am still paying for.

So think long and hard. Decide if what you get someplace else is worth your relocation. Talk to those who have left and like it there and hear out those who have returned and like Romania better. Then decide for yourself. And DO act on it. If you decide on going, start packing. If you decide on staying, stop bitching about your life and country. Not out of love of Romania, but to make your life more pleasant and less miserable.

I for one have decided to concentrate on finishing my education. After that, I would like to have my own business on the side. When I am done with experimenting those, I’ll decide in which country I’ll be living. I can tell you for sure it will not be the US or Canada. Or any extremely cold country :)

Don’t Force Your Services on Me!

I have a huge problem with people forcing me to accept the services they offer. I need to feel free about what I want to buy, it is my decision alone. Therefore, I am leading a personal war against window washers! You all know them, you see them at the traffic lights, coming to you with a bottle of 80% water and 20% detergent (the best cases). If you are not paying attention, they’ll just throw the detergent on your car and start cleaning. And you are left there, making desperate sings and screaming at them to stop.

When it is grown ups, I have no problem honking and making them go away. But when it’s children we’re talking about, it all becomes a huge problem. I feel guilty, because I know they rely o the money they make. They might genuinely need it or be forced to work hard by parents or other caretakers. I still do not want their detergent on my car! I do buy it myself occasionally and only get the good stuff. So why would I need someone to clean my windows when it takes 2 seconds to do it myself with no real effort?

I’d rather they asked for my help. I would help, whenever I could. But having a certain service imposed on me, being forced to pay for something I didn’t want in the first place leaves me full of anger and frustration. Angry at those who are imposing (the grown-ups actually doing it or those forcing children to act like that), angry at the system and myself for not being able to do more…

How would you feel in such a position?

Time, always an issue

I have been having quite a few issues with time management these days. Not because I cannot manage my tasks and time, but because I sometimes seem to be over allocated. And tasks seem to change priority every second or, even worse, appear out of the blue.

A dear friend of mine recommended that I should use two wonder tools: delegate and drop. I have and it still seems I am piled up here. So I ask you dear readers, when planning your day carefully and sticking to the original plan does not work for more than a few hours, what is there to do? How much time should one waste on doing to do lists? Even if you create them in your mind only, you still waste time on analyzing the situation and re-prioritizing. I would really love to see your thoughts on this one.
