Chocolat

There are movies that give food for your dreams. And movies that give food for your thoughts. Also, there are movies that stimulate your senses. Movies that do all of the above have their own special place. And Chocolat is one of them.

All I can say is watch it, if you haven’t already. And if you have, watch it again. Oh, yeah, and if I were alone right now and had enough money for a trophy husband, Johnny Depp would be the one! :p

Guerrilla Morning Crue, Again

Some of you know that I am a quite big fan of Radio Guerrilla. Mostly because of their choice in music and also because I love their shows. But because of the morning show crew and especially because of their behavior this morning, I’m seriously thinking of sticking to music only.

Let me tell you why. They spent 5 minutes making fun of gay men. 5 minutes of cheap jokes early in the morning when EVERYBODY can tune in and listen. Then they complained that Romanians are intolerant and some hot shots stated they’d like to kill homosexuals. Excuse me, but wasn’t what you just did highly intolerant??? Wake up people! Lately you are not that smart and certainly not that open minded! Change topics or at least have the decency not to accuse others when you are doing the same thing. Or better yet, at times, just turn the music on and shut up for a change!

I cannot even begin to explain how disappointed I am. Other morning shows follow even worse trends, as they are cheap or lure people with money to do something completely crazy and stupid. And Guerrilla had the only morning show I could actually listen to without getting annoyed. And now they had to also change that.

Oh, and by the way. Your “Let’s talk about DEX” contest is not necessarily rewarding people that know stuff. They can always use DEX Online :)

Weird Coincidences

Whenever I read the first part of Mircea Cartarescu‘s trilogy “Orbitor” (translated as Glaring on Wikipedia, but I’m not sure how good a translation it is or how strong the “blinding” aspect is), something weird happens. It almost feels like Aripa Stanga – the Left Wing – has some magical powers.

The first time I read it, about 3 or 4 year ago, I reached the point where an albino black man was introduced. Not quite common, but even less common in the Romanian scenery. There are quite a few in Bucharest, most of them students. But I have never seen and albino black man in person. So imagine my surprise when lifting my eye from the book, while reading about that powerful man, to see one next to me in the tram! I thought it was nothing, just a strange coincidence.

Then today, before leaving home, I was reading about a ring with a butterfly on it. In the bathroom of the restaurant I ate with D and my mom I found a ring with a butterfly that someone had forgotten there. I smiled and took it to one of the waitresses.

Now these might not seem much to you, but it did to me. I guess anything allowing me to unleash my imagination and create complicated scenarios that link me to things and people elsewhere is welcomed. It is a way to escape from the day to day routine and to day dream a bit, if you like. No matter what the reason, it made me feel less ordinary, like something spectacular was happening to me. And amazing things do happen to me, quite often. And I am grateful for each and every one of them.

Enough ranting for a Sunday night! Enjoy what’s left of your weekend, everyone, and dream a little!

Blind Marriage on Radio 21

Radio 21 is a local radio station. Nothing special here. Not until they invented the “Blind Wedding” (Nunta pe NeVe). So they choose a the perfect bride, then 5 potential grooms and the bride to be decides who to ask to marry her. Isn’t everything wrong in this picture?

Maybe I am outdated or limited or not open minded enough, but I don’t see how two people getting to know each other during live radio shows (where they’d naturally showoff, tell a lie or two, impress the audience etc) stand a chance. According to Radio 21 they will see each other for the first time at the City Hall. If they say yes, they get a lot of goodies. If they say no, they still get a party.

Now my question is the following: what if they say yes and in about a month realize the other one’s personality is nothing but a big fat lie? Will Radio 21 be by their side when they handle the disappointment and the messy divorce? I say marrying someone you don’t actually know is crazy. And coming from Romanians, of which a lot are against arranged marriages and brides met during the wedding ceremonies, it’s also a picture of our falseness.

Take any of these women and ask them if they’d marry a guy without knowing him. Most of them would say no. Give them a big fat wedding, some more prizes, make them “stars” and give them the impression they are queens men want to please and they go for it. Hundreds of them! I am not sure if this is an upgrade or downgrade from having “trophy wife” as a goal in life.
