Do You Want to Organize a Great Party?

In Bucharest? And not to have to worry all the time during the party? Then I have one advice for you! Stay away from the Glamour club!

Glamour has a pretty cool interior design, an amazing location, it has plenty of space for people to dance. At first glance, it seems the perfect place to organize a party for your colleagues. I mean, you’ve all been working titanically to get the new product released, packaged, promoted, delivered, tested, or whatever else it is that you do in the company. It’s been stressful and you are now getting your reward: a few hours of dancing, having a bite and something to drink. So why not Glamour, if it seems so fit.

Well, first of all, because the staff is rude. I got there with a colleague before the rest of our team. We had to make sure everything was fine. I went in and said “Good evening”. “What did you say to me?” was the reply of the bodyguard. I froze for a bit, wondering how to react. I tried again, explained what I was doing there. He nodded. One waitress came, said everything was fine.

Secondly, this was a private party and there were too many people I didn’t know. Went to ask what was up. I got a reply from the waitress saying they were all staff. Now why on earth do I need over 10 people there when only 4 are actually working? And why do some of them kiss and hold hands? Is it Glamour employees couples night and I don’t know it? Did I mention the people at the party had to struggle to make room at the bar to order? Yes, because of the “staffers”.

Another reason: how they handled food. Two thirds of the food we paid for were brought out and then taken back although we hadn’t finished eating. Oh, and again, at certain times, we had to struggle to make room because the staff was too busy eating!

Fourth reason: music. It was a Hawaiian themed party. They had no tune to actually resemble something Hawaiian. But at around 2 am they started playing slow tunes, hoping we’d leave. We had rented the place until 5am. When our CEO went to ask for a different kind of music, the owner told her they were emailed and required by the management to play Hawaiian music and that’s what they’re playing. I have a question to you all: what does Elvis have to do with Hawaiian music?!? He was told that the MANAGEMENT is now asking for something else.

How the party actually turned out for the rest of us: amazing. Simply because we loved our “hula skirts” and paper made flowers hanging around our necks. And because we can have fun on any kind of music. And because we have a strong will to ignore anything that is trying to ruin our well-deserved party.

But such issues should never occur at a trendy club charging a whole lot for a party. Especially when the party is on a Thursday night and they would have otherwise made a lot less money. Some of you might tell me that a lot of other bar and club owners and employees can get their share of your drinks and food. Well, true, but at least they’d have the decency to not do it right in your face! Yes, we could have made a scandal. But our purpose was to have fun. If we pay for a service, why does it have to be so hard to actually get it?

Back to my conclusion about this club: Go.Somewhere.Else!

Italy, against freedom of speech

We’ve all heard of bloggers who were arrested, of bans on certain free blogging platforms (as a matter a fact, Shi has written extensively on the Blogger.com ban in Pakistan). But the countries where it happened did not scare us much…Egypt, Pakistan, not all that bad, and they were solved soon enough.

What about Italy? Would an attempt to wash freedom of speech off the face of Internet scare you? It is not just a “what if” case scenario. It is actually happening, as Alex Brie points out. And he is right to wonder why isn’t this making the front page news in the rest of the world. What’s wrong with media these days?

If the new law ever sees the light of day (and it has big chances), all bloggers in Italy will have to register, pay taxes for blogging and face criminal charges for what they write, which means going to jail in certain cases.

We should all do our best to make this issue known. At least on the blogosphere…

Why Don’t You Reply to Your Emails?

I am completely puzzled by some people selling advertising space. Why? Because they act as if then don’t need you to buy anything from them. I tried to contact some advertising sales team placing ads in some important newsletters. They only have a generic email address listed. No other contact details. So I write them asking for some information, I send some some details about my company so that they recommend some appropriate such newsletters.

Well, a week has passed and no reply. I wonder why. Maybe then never expected some one wanting to buy what they sell? I highly doubt that. Maybe they have too much customers. But from my point of view, such disrespect is the best recipe to someday getting to no customers whatsoever!

So please people, when someone wants to buy you’re product, do reply their emails! And if you are somehow unable to do that, add a telephone number or something! Of course, only if you actually want to expand your business…Otherwise, keep ignoring potential customers!

Which Brand Would You Choose for a Tattoo?

Right brain, left brain, logic or emotions, the never-ending debate. But in the end emotions are important when it comes to buying a certain brand and marketing experts do know how to make use of those latent emotions. Because the ads that stay with us are not those who sell the cheapest product, but those who sell our own way of living, or the one we aspire to.

For example, Coca-Cola has turned me into its obedient “follower”. I quit drinking Coke a while ago, but I can still easily connect with their message. And I’d like to go buy some, although after you quit drinking it for long enough, you start wondering why you loved it in the first place. It’d never happen with Pepsi though. Especially after their new Pepsi Max commercials! Although they did open my eyes. I had no idea men, especially young ones, wanted to be turned into a sexual object that bad! And here are the rest of us, striving for the exact opposite!

The same for the Zaraza brandy. I hate brandy, I really cannot drink it. Still, they have a campaign praising values such as culture, adventure, and wanting to have more than material things. I wouldn’t drink it, but it would make a good gift in the future.

Or my all time favorite slogan: “I would rather die of thirst than drink from the cup of mediocrity”. It is a Stella Artois slogan. And I liked it a lot better than their funny ads.

Some think that a brand can actually stand the test of might when it can get its “followers” to have it tattooed on their skin. Just like Harley Davidson does.

So I ask you. Is there one brand you’d choose for a tattoo? I guess I’d have a Dune tattoo for a couple of months :)

They Actually Got Married?!?

Remember the blind marriage on Radio 21? I am sure you’re wondering what happened to that show. Well, they went through with it. The two lucky winners saw each other for about a minute and they got married.

There are no comments left here. If I hear of a divorce, I’ll let you know. If I hear they make it through 5 years together, I’ll let you know again. They’re either stupid or irresponsible, or very lucky. Or maybe there’s a secret they’ve found and I lack to see it. I still believe this is all a huge mistake.
