it is very true and you had great insights there.

Having a long reach over people is something that attracts sponsors. 

It is very important to know your 50 people, be able to target them and identify their common traits in order to be able to market them to the potential sponsor.

Your insight is indeed correct and in Social Networks that is happening with MeetUps. Sponsors are contacting Meetup organizers because they know they will find a very specific target in there.
