		<description>Andrew, many companies still think there are only a few specific places where they interact with potential customers. Wrong, but still commonplace. Anyway, since the publishing date, they started really working and eventually completed most of  the project. It looks ok. Yet if I ever were to hire such a developer and see this project as their reference, it would definitely be a minus, not a plus.</description>

The company in your example may not feel that public opinion of it&#039;s performance is important.

But it should remember this - amongst those who pass by may potentially be individuals who hold influential positions in organizations which are potential future clients of the firm concerned.

I agree with your viewpoint entirely on this one, and as your example shows, the effective management of public relations need not cost a great deal of money - acts of simple basic courtesy such as signposts, notices or announcements can make a big difference.

One of the most important aspects in this regard is for firms to raise awareness of the importance of basic public courtesy amongst their staff who work at an operational level. Several years ago, I was reliant public transport in order to get to work. On the way home from work, it would not be uncommon for the train to come to a dead stop in the middle of the tracks (not at a station) with no apparent reason, and to sit there for periods of up to twenty or thirty minutes. 

The delays were frustrating enough, but what I found even more frustrating was that there was no announcement, and at no stage were passengers ever told the what was happening, the reasons for the delay or its likely duration - let alone an apology.

From a viewpoint of the travelling public, simple communication from the driver would have gone a long way toward appeasing our frustration.

		<description>Barbara, you actually make a great point. But I doubt there&#039;s any PR dept handling Bucharest. There should be one within City Hall, but if there were, I believe there would always be something not to agree on with the other halls with authority over each sector of Bucharest.

		<description>PR can definitely help a company better communicate with existing and prospective customers. If nobody knows about you, how well is your business going to do outside your local area? Spending tons of money in 1 newspaper ad one time might also not be as effective. But now it’s just an important decision to choose the right company to help you. </description>

In this case, the city and the company need to work together to communicate progress - or lack thereof. When we managed the PR for a village&#039;s economic development corporation, we sent out ongoing press releases with updates on all projects on behalf of the construction providers. The village delivered the message and became the connection point for ongoing communication.
