I'm torn on both Twitter and LinkedIn. I get the concepts, I've tried the services, but I'm still confused on the practicality of both sites.

With Twitter I get the point. You simply share your life, thoughts or ideas with the world and with anyone interested in listening. But maybe I'm too much of a consumer to have the motivation to Tweet. So I prefer to follow then to be followed. Still I've always seen Twitter like I do a television. Its too one directional. Yes you can reply to someones Tweet, send them a personal message and so on. So I might be missing something! =)

LinkedIn on the other hand is clearly supposed to be practical, where Tweeter can at least get by with being entertaining. Sort of like MySpace and Facebook... Tweeter can simply be fun and nothing else. However LinkedIn is quite another story. It truly is meant to help professionals connect. But I suppose more importantly, help people find good companies to work for. I might be missing something here also, but it just doesn't seem to be of much use. What's there to do on LinkedIn other then post your profile and possibly contact other people?

A great site, which I think is a pretty good combination of both LinkedIn and Twitter is is GetSatisfaction. Forgetting the silly name, this is a pretty practical site.

Still, its interesting to see how many people Tweet and who exactly is doing all the Tweeting. I think from a PR stand point, Twitter is great. So it would make sense that company owners and PR folks tweet the most. Otherwise I think its good entertainment.

Unless I'm missing something! =)
